Time has Arrived to Have New Leaders
by: Guarich

Yes, the time has arrived to have new leaders, but NOT dinosaurs in the Political leadership in the Horn of Africa.

We, the people of the Horn of Africa want new and young leaders to lead many states in miserable conditions to prosperity. Eritrea in my opinion would always be exceptional, according to manny demographics and other social reasons.

New political leaders such as the Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed and with his political vision can lead the states in the Horn of Africa to great integrity and one confederal system, as I read at your USHA project.

A part from this, I hope all the Ethiopian people see and understand the new policy of the Ethiopian prime minister and support him to come through and overcome any problems that might occur from a very complicated Ethiopian equitation, as you have expressed somewhere.

Hopes are Pending
by: Dani

As I can see, the hopes are going to be fulfilled and what the Ethiopian PM plans will soon become factual and every Ethiopian will see the position be changed flourish for the benefits of everyone in this great beloved state.

I am non a politician, but I understand from the impressive attempts of the Ethiopian prime minister that he will lead Ethiopia with its diversified nationalities to prosperity as one great nation.

What I am hoping for is that the sharing of power and wealth should be planned in a very good regional constitutional project.

* Ethiopian Politics in the "Marxist Modern: An Ethnographic History of the Ethiopian Revolution"

In 284 pages, Donald L. Donham says remarkable things about Ethiopia. He knows that modernity has become a keyword in a number of recent intellectual discussions. So, in his book, Donald L. Donham suggests that similar debates have long been occurred, particularly among peoples located on the margins of world power and wealth.

The terms "peoples located on the margins of world power and wealth" are not concrete, for shure. However, based on extensive fieldwork in Ethiopia conducted over a period of some years extending a decade and a half, the Marxist Modern provides a cultural history of the Ethiopian revolution that highlights the role of modernist ideas.

Through the time he conducted his research, Donham moved between the capital, Addis Ababa, and Maale, the home of a small ethnic group in the south to construct a narrative of upheaval and change, presenting local peoples understandings of events, as these echoed, with appropriated stories of other world revolutions.

By the help of poststructuralist insights and theories of narrative, Donham locates a recurrent dialectic between modernist Marxism, local Maale traditionalisms, and anti-modernist, evangelical Christianity.

It is also said about his book and his experiences that one of the most consequential outcomes of this interaction until the late 1980s was the creation of a more powerful state, one that penetrated peasant communities ever more deeply and pervasively.

Combining sophisticated theory with fascinating ethnographic detail, this study contributes to the theory of revolution as well as the study of modernity. In doing so, it seeks to integrate ethnography and history in a new way.

* Ethiopian Politics Comments: Oromtitti: The Forgotten Women in Ethiopian History

In 160 pages, published on January 2004, Belletech Deressa writes about the forgotten woman in the Ethiopian history, Oromtitti. Her book is simultaneously a dedication to, and a cultural examination of, the women who helped shape the history of a nation.

It is said about her work that Deressa’s discussion of the roles of Oromo women in the history of Ethiopia echoes with a quiet, yet strong passion for her heritage and homeland.

The examinations go after remarkable women, queens, teachers, martyrs and pioneers and so Deressa paints a vivid picture of the women who struggled through their cultural obstacles to become prominent structures within the Oromo society.

The research is the Oromo's cult.

* Ethiopian Politics Comments: An Introduction to the Medical History of Ethiopia

Living in Ethiopia for a long period, as well his mother did, Richard Pankhurst knew many facts in different aspects of life in Ethiopia and thus he wrote about this land. He expressed his love too through some of his work.

The following book description is from Amazon:

Climatic Factors

Ethiopia on many counts was geographically well situated. Normally, the climate of the highlands with its bright sunshine yet gentle heat is salubrious and invigorating, and two annual rainy seasons do much to cleanse the country of infection.

The value of these rains impressed observers such as the Englishman Charles Rey, who, writing of Addis Ababa in the 1920s, observed that after seven or eight months one looked forward to "the coming fierce downpours, to bring freshness to the air and cleanliness to the town." His compatriot Christine Sandford agreed that the weather did much to compensate for lack of medical facilities.

"It was," she wrote, "only the wonderful climate of the highlands," with their "dry air, brilliant sunshine, yet temperate heat," followed by the "cleansing torrents of the rainy season," that "checked the spread of infection and made epidemics very uncommon."

On a more personal note, she commented: 'The author brought up a family of six children in Addis Ababa and its vicinity without any infectious illness among them in over fifteen years, with the exception of one case of whooping cough, and occasional conjunctivitis, which, after a little experience, was avoided altogether.'

The highlands suffered, however, from sudden drops in temperature, particularly at night, as well as from considerable humidity during rains. Cold nights following upon warm or hot days were probably responsible for the high incidence of pneumonia, pleurisy, bronchitis, catarrh and other diseases of the respiratory organs. Heavy rainfall was likewise conductive to the colds, influenza, and bronchitis that were sometimes prevalent during the rains.

The lowlands, on the other hand, tended to be infested with mosquitoes and thus were subject to malaria. This disease was widespread in areas of low elevation, particularly during the rains, and was especially prevalent in narrow, densely wooded, and damp river valleys and swampy plains near rivers and lakes, as well as in the coastal area.
