The Economy of Somaliland!
by Admin
The history of British, French, Italian and other European colonial powers has recently attracted renewed interests from historians and economists to study the colonial impacts on Somaliland and other states in the Horn of Africa and the recent development in those countries.
So, historian and scholars have opened new fields of researches and analyses to highlight the working mechanisms of the colonial system compared with the working mechanisms of the systems the nationals have built in every state in Somaliland and other states in the Horn of Africa.
The work of the historian and analysts has in fact opened the gate of knowledge to know more about many countries in Africa taking into focus the perspective of African countries and the political economy in those countries thoroughly through the 19th century and up to the 20th century.
Many of the given studies have already covered the strategies of the economic development, including the development of agriculture and natural resources (since many lands in Africa are agri-pastoral), the development of the mineral hydro resources and the social development.
In Somaliland the development started by the development of the mineral and hydro resources, as they are the first elements needed for the development of other resources that drives the monetary system of the new state from the agri-pastoral resources.
This kick-off policy contributes to the social development to enhance the education and health and bridge the gap of the poverty margin.
The entire development Somaliland aims at should make it self-sufficient on food depending only on its fertile soil, water, livestock, fisheries and natural resources that include rangelands forests and woodlands that cover sloping topography.
The land contains invaluable minerals including gold and some other metals, in addition to undiscovered oil and gas in Somaliland geological strata.
